INTRODUCTION

The Symposium on Quantum Computing and Quantum Optics focuses on the recent developments in quantum optics and quantum information. With the effort of bringing together the top experts in these fields, the symposium will cover a series of topics ranging from controlling single qubit to implementing quantum algorithms on scalable architectures, from quantum sensing of nanoscale systems to quantum optics questions involving astronomical objects such as black holes. This Symposium will aim to exhibit the state-of-the-art quantum science and technology that will not only lead to a better understanding of quantum mechanics, but also provide solutions to challenging problems in physics.

We have the honor to be joined with our distinguished colleague Marlan Scully who has made seminal contributions in quantum optics during the past 50 years. We would like to take this chance to highlight his long lasting contribution.

Looking forward to witnessing the frontier of quantum science and technology, we hope that this symposium will provide an opportunity for researchers to share their visions and methodologies, and to seek mutual stimulations and collaborations.
