INTRODUCTION


Call for Papers: TCCSL International Conference 2024

(Second Submission Round)


International Conference on Teaching and Learning Standard Chinese and Cantonese as a Second Language (TCCSL International Conference 2024), hosted by the Chinese Language Centre (CLC) at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, will focus on research and teaching related to the fields of teaching Standard Chinese and Cantonese as a second language. The conference will address current and trending academic topics, providing a platform for scholars and educators in related fields to exchange ideas, collaborate, and advance their professional development. It will also serve as a gathering for both new and old friends, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the CLC.

13 - 14 June 2024 (Thu - Fri)

Themes

The focused themes include:

1.         Virtual Teaching and Learning (digital tools, GenAI platforms, metaverse etc.)

2.         Pedagogies

3.         Learner Diversity

4.         Curriculum development

5.         Assessment

Submissions on other topics related to Standard Chinese or Cantonese teaching and learning are also welcome.


Conference Mode and Venue

Mode: Hybrid (both online and face-to-face).

Venue: The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Campus (11 Yuk Choi Road, Hung Hom, Kowloon, Hong Kong)

Submission of Abstracts

We invite the submission of abstracts related to teaching or research on standard Chinese or Cantonese as a second language. The details are as follows:


1.      Abstracts should be written in Chinese or English and should be within 300 words. They should include the title, author's name and affiliation, 3-5 keywords, and main references. The abstract should not exceed one A4 page.

2.      Abstracts will be anonymously reviewed. Please prepare two copies, one with author's name and one without, and submit them through the online system (platform link TBC).

3.      Each individual can submit a maximum of one individually authored abstract and one co-authored abstract, with a total of no more than two submissions.

10 April 2024 (Wed): Online registration deadline.


16 April 2024 (Tue): Official invitation letters will be issued.


* Upon the completion of the conference, presenters will be invited to submit their full papers. The conference proceedings will be published by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Press after review. Further details will be announced in due course.


Presentation Details


Sessions:

Parallel sessions for scholars and teachers, as well as postgraduate student forums, will be held. Each presentation is limited to 20 minutes, followed by a Q&A session.


Presentation Languages: Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, or English.


Registration Fee: Free.

Lunch and dinner will be provided for face-to-face participants. However, accommodation and traveling expenses will have to be covered by the participants themselves.
